ISLAND PHOTO HUNT

Awaken to beauty through the practice of photography
and document Paradise on Earth

January 21 – February 3, 2017
Concept
This expedition is about diversity. We will visit some of the most beautiful islands in Indonesia: Hindu Bali, Catholic Flores (a former Portuguese colony), and wild Komodo island, inhabited by giant Komodo dragons. These locations are close to each other geographically, but worlds apart culturally, anthropologically and topographically. We will learn how to explore and capture this abundance and diversity through
the art of photography.

What is it about?
Our journey will start on beautiful Bali where we will explore its non-touristy locations visiting abandoned temples high in the mountains, hiking to waterfalls deep in the jungle, and spending time in remote indigenous villages.

We will continue to spectacular Flores with its hidden beaches, colorful volcano lakes, superb diving locations, and traditional villages, unchanged for millennia. Then we'll meet Komodo dragons face to face, or to be more precise, face to telephoto lens.

In this trip we will use photography as a means to explore the world around as well as within us. We will cover a wide range of photography subjects, shooting flora and fauna on earth as well as underwater. We will document architecture, traditional villages life and island cultural heritage. Photography workshops will be taught by three teachers who have been mastering different approaches to this art. Michael Yoshpa explores meditative and biological approaches to photography, taking portraits of nature and using the camera as a creative tool for developing self-awareness. Anton Gutmann specializes in wildlife photography, and shoots for National Geographic. He will share technical secrets of his art. And Yana K.M comes from an artistic background. She is fascinated by the magic of the moment, capturing fragments of the everyday mosaic of life.
Learn how to stay in the here and now,
and capture the fleeting beauty of the moment!
